The GeoMAPP Final Report: 2007-2011 summarizes the key findings, deliverables completed, and activities the GeoMAPP team accomplished over the four-year (2007-2011) grant period. The report presents highlights from the four project working groups (Business Planning, Data Transfer and Preservation, Storage and Access, Outreach) formed for the second phase of the project (2010-2011), as well as key initiatives the four partner states (Kentucky, Montana, North Carolina, Utah) pursued during the project’s second phase. The report also offers anticipated next steps for each state, as they proceed independently with their geoarchiving initiatives. The Key Findings and Best Practices document was derived from the four year GeoMAPP project that explored the transfer and preservation of and access to older geospatial datasets. This document distills the most important of the project's key findings and recommendations derived from that effort.

The report includes project overview, key investigative activities and important observations/findings that can assist both GIS practitioners and archivists in their efforts to preserve superseded geospatial data for the long-term.

Invitation For Bids


GeoMAPP Welcomes Applied Geographics, Inc. and AECOM to Provide Business Planning Consulting Services, Aug, 17, 2011 NEW

On August 17, 2011, the GeoMAPP team officially welcomed Applied Geographics, Inc. and AECOM to the project to assist in developing geoarchiving business planning tools to support the digital preservation of geospatial data. Applied Geographics, Inc. will be working with the GeoMAPP team to create deliverables consisting of informational documents, guidelines, and templates suitable for developing a comprehensive business plan for digital geospatial preservation. The new business planning tools will be publicly available in early December through the GeoMAPP website's Publications & Tools online library.

REPOST: GeoMAPP Partners Invitation for Bids (IFB) for CGIA GeoMAPP Business Planning Consulting Services, July 2011


On May 25, the North Carolina Center for Geographic Information and Analysis posted an invitation for bids (IFB) to select a business planning consultant for the Geospatial Multistate Archive and Preservation Partnership (GeoMAPP). During the evaluation period, a procedural issue was identified by the state. On July 7, the state canceled this solicitation and on July 8, a revised solicitation was posted. The selected consultant will provide support in the development of best practices and templates for enterprise-level business planning in the context of geospatial data preservation. The Geospatial Multistate Archive and Preservation Partnership (GeoMAPP) is supported by the United States Library of Congress’ National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (NDIIPP) . Current GeoMAPP partner states are North Carolina, Kentucky, Montana, and Utah. The purpose of this Invitation for Bids (IFB) and any resulting contract is to solicit a consultant to support the GeoMAPP activity of developing business planning tools specific to the process of digital preservation of geospatial content. The period of performance will be from June 13, 2011 through October 31, 2011.

The responding consultant will engage the GeoMAPP partnership participants in the evaluation of business planning materials created by GeoMAPP partners to date based on experiences in the participating states. The selected firm will create deliverables consisting of informational documents, guidelines, and templates suitable for developing a comprehensive business plan for digital geospatial preservation in an enterprise public sector environment.

The Geospatial Multistate Archive and Preservation Partnership (GeoMAPP) is supported by the United States Library of Congress’ National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (NDIIPP) . Current GeoMAPP partner states are Kentucky, Utah, and North Carolina. The GeoMAPP project seeks to expand the partnership by two awardees selected through an invitation for bids (IFB) announcement following North Carolina procurement policy. Through the expansion of the GeoMAPP partnership, the Library of Congress and existing GeoMAPP partners will engage respondents in the best practices in digital preservation of geospatial resources. New partners will be expected to provide feedback on the best practices compiled by the GeoMAPP partnership, and participate in current technical evaluations and research, outreach to professional organizations and stakeholders within the respondents' state, and furthering the goals of the GeoMAPP partnership.

Responses to this request shall represent a collaborative effort between the digital preservation and geospatial agencies within a responding state; additional partners may be included in the responses and project. This IFB will select two (2) respondents’ proposals. An amount of $199,155 is available for distribution to the pool of selected respondents, with a maximum amount of $99,575 available to distribute among the participating organizations of a selected respondent team. For each selected response, independent contracts will be developed to address the scope of work and budget for each member of the respondent team that will require direct reimbursement.
